Developing Testing Methodology for Aviation Process Organization

What?

Development and Implementation of Testing Methodology, Establishment of Testing Pool for DPO Core Department.

When?

2021-ongoing

For whom?

Problem to solve

One of Europe's leading airlines' Hungarian department approached our company with the goal of jointly developing their system's testing methodology, while considering automation possibilities and requirements.

We conducted an initial assessment of needs and possibilities to shape the methodology's implementation process, placing significant emphasis on gaining insights into industry-specific applications and processes for successful execution.

What approach did we apply?

Right from the initial phase of the project, we aimed to assess the current situation by continuously involving the relevant departments and stakeholders. Subsequently, we focused on developing the new methodology, always including the client in the planning tasks. Finally, after the methodological proposal was accepted, we strived for its precise and thorough implementation and the realization of efficient change management.

What was the objective to achieve?

The client was clear in formulating the objectives. They wanted to introduce a testing methodology that ensures software defects and environmental anomalies occurring in projects are addressed in the early stages of testing, not jeopardizing the end-user tests, which are purely for business control and user assessment.

What actions did we take?

The first and most crucial step in commissioning methodological introductions is always the assessment of the current state. Within this framework, we get to know the needs and expectations, collect feedback and suggestions, and then organize and structure them.

This was the case at the beginning of our consulting project with one of Europe's leading airlines. Initially, we conducted interviews with the relevant department heads and experts to gather sufficient information about the current situation. At the same time, we familiarized ourselves with the applications subjected to methodological operation and their technical parameters. Subsequently, using the acquired knowledge and requirements, we collaboratively designed and documented the methodology of future operations with the client. The implementation was divided into three main stages:

These were the infrastructure development, the establishment of the professional testing pool, and knowledge transfer. After these stages, the actual testing work following the new methodology could commence.

What was the outcome of the collaboration?

Following the successful introduction of the methodology, a closer and ongoing collaboration began. We gradually brought more systems and business processes under the scope of our standardized methodological operation.

It is a success for us that nowadays, our client turns to our team for ad hoc emerging issues and other testing tasks. An example of such a complex task was a resource scaling problem in a live environment. With the help of our performance tests, we were able to contribute to uncovering this issue and providing additional information to determine the extent of the problem.

Our professional team is continually expanding, and in addition to testing and automation tasks, we now also handle test coordination and test management tasks. Our plans include the establishment of further QA teams and the standardization of their operations, thus supporting the continuous improvement of our client's business processes.
